This is a beginner workshop for two people. It involves working at a flame, melting glass to create your own unique glass beads. The class takes place in my garden studio at my home in Guildford. It’s a cosy, quiet, relaxed environment with space for up to three people.
You will be taught how to handle the glass rods and make a basic bead and then move on to some further techniques for adding decorations, such as polkadots. Your beads will be fully annealed overnight, then cleaned and posted out to you for you to use however you like.
You will make a minimum of four beads using specific techniques and if there is time you go on to make more.
The class will last for 3 hours and can start at either 10am or 2pm.
All materials and safety equipment is provided.
The class location details and safety information will be emailed out to you once we have received your booking.
We of course will try not to, but we reserve the right to change your booking if personal circumstances arise.

My friend and I returned for a further lampworking class with Gina, during which we learned some new techniques for making more complex beads. This time, we made four each, and were impressed with our achievements. As with our first class, Gina was a superb teacher, demonstrating the techniques clearly before our turn, and supervising and guiding us closely to maximise the chances of success. What I really appreciate is her readiness to share her expertise, not just on the mechanics of making a particular bead in a particular way, but on choices of glass rod and likely outcomes with the combinations we plan to choose. We have booked for a third class :D
Our recent beginners' lampworking course exceeded all my expectations. I'd recommend it to anyone. Gina's setup (studio, equipment, facilities, range of materials) is the best I've come across, and her explanation of what we were going to do (accompanied by clear demonstrations then close, constant, constructive supervision) meant we had a really productive and fulfilling time, making five beads each. I had just the right level of help from her - and diplomatic guidance when I needed it - and I found the whole workshop an absolute joy. I'll be back for the more advanced one!
We learned so much during our session thanks to Gina. A really enjoyable morning. JD
